Upcoming events and recreational opportunities

I spent some time working on the overall calender of events and uploading more events onto the state tourism website.  Most of the events are held on the weekends, but there's more recreational opportunities available any day of the week than I can even "shake a stick at."  And every new issue of the Powell Valley News shows even more events as well.  I certainly haven't run out of places to go and things to do!

Check out this video (2:53 minutes) from Wayne’s Place, not only is that wee little gal gonna sing through the words to the entire song, but she even fits in a little flat footing (at about minute 1:38) while standing in the folding chair!  That lil gal is having so much fun, I watched this video 3 times straight!!  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=392925884133629&set=vb.100002486639093&type=2&theater

Weather permitting, Motorcycle riding with Uncle Frankie to test out some of the new routes mapped out here:  http://www.appalachianbackroads.com/

We may start off right there in Dryden on the Elk Knob Trace.  “Elk Knob Trace runs from the Pennington/Big Stone Gap Connector, VA58A to VA421, Duffield/Pennington Connector. It's a short but adventurous run between the Powell River to the north and a beautiful view of Elk Knob to the south.”  Looking at the map, it looks like Route 642 in the connector.  http://www.appalachianbackroads.com/#!routes/vstc2=elk-knob-trace

If that short run goes well, then we could head to the other side of Pennington Gap and turn right onto Route 606… woohooo!! THAT’s the ride I’ve been wanting to take to Keokee! Route 606 is on part of the Lee County portion of The Twisted Sister route: http://www.appalachianbackroads.com/#!routes/vstc2=twisted-sister

Fishing with Pat.  Martins Creek and North Fork of the Powell River were stocked with trout earlier this month.  Maybe some of those trout are still hanging around??

And here's a heads-up on some of the events that will be happening the next weekend.
