Stop # 7: Cumberland Bowl Park in Jonesville

Yesterday's picnic in Cumberland Bowl Park with Dianne Collins turned into a delightful three-hour outdoors chat.  I remember being rather envious of Lee County native Regina Warren, a few years back, as she was describing a three-hour outdoors lunch with a friend or two, not long after she had landed in Mexico, where she now lives.  I remember thinking, "That sounds so fun, but surely I don't have to move to Mexico to enjoy a three-hour lunch outdoors with a friend."  Yesterday's picnic in the park proved that theory to be true. You don't have to move to Mexico to enjoy a chatty three-hour lunch outdoors.  You can enjoy a three-hour lunch outdoors with a friend right here in Lee County, Virginia, in one of our many parks.  As with every stop in Lee County, there's a lot of history behind this destination, Cumberland Bowl Park, including the happy memories of people who have enjoyed this destination in the past over the years.  I remember laying on the ground in Cumberland Bowl Park as a kid, watching the July 4th fireworks.  The park's "bowl" shape makes it ideal for laying on the ground with your head higher than your feet, making it oh so easy to stare up into the sky at the fireworks.  Dianne's doing photography these days, and she took some photos of me for this blog entry. Thank you, Dianne!
