Stop # 21: Trails, Trails, Trails in Far Western Lee County

Yesterday was overcast, but the rain held off while I visited trails, trails, and more trails in far western Lee County.  I totally enjoyed the excuse to be outdoors and in the woods now while the leaves are turning.  I didn't even get to all of the many trail heads in western Lee County, but here are a few:

Bike, hike or horseback ride on the eight-mile Wilderness Road Trail linking Wilderness Road State Park with over 85 miles of trails in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in far western Lee County at the border of Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee.  Or simply enjoy a nice picnic at one of the picnic tables located at the eastern trail head of the Wilderness Road Trail here:

In Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Colson Lane  and Colson Trail offered paths through the woods.

Green Leaf Nature Trail is accessible in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park's Wilderness Road Campground area at the amphitheater.

Gibson Trail is also accessible in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park's Wilderness Road Campground area, slightly down the hill from the entrance to the amphitheater.  Serious hikers can start out at this Gibson Trail trail head in the campground, hike 5 miles to get on Ridge Trail and then go 6 more miles to arrive at Hensley Settlement.

Lewis Hollow Trail is accessible in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park's Wilderness Road Picnic Area near the campground.  The picnic area at the trail head for Lewis Hollow Trail even has a nice restroom facility conveniently located nearby.  For serious hikers, Lewis Hollow Trail connects with Ridge Trail which goes to Pinnacle Overlook.
