Stop # 20: Catching Crawdads on Martins Creek near Rose Hill

Our first frost for the season arrived last night, making the morning seem a bit chilly; however, the afternoon was warm and sunny with bright blue skies.  I spent most of the afternoon with Pat Houck on Martins Creek.  We had planned to go fishing, but in the clear, shallow water we caught not just one, but three crawdads.  They would grab the worm with their claw and HANG ON!

We also enjoyed a yummy picnic lunch beside the creek, and had a jolly good time outdoors on a beautiful Fall day in the Appalachian Mountains.  The peaceful scenery was relaxing, and the crawdads were quite entertaining.  We plan to head back to Martins Creek for another outing again soon.

Sure enjoyed the picnic lunch Pat brought for us, which included warm soup and coffee!

Do you see the crawdad under water in the middle of the photo?

Yes, there is a crawdad hanging on that hook!

Yes, a crawdad on the hook!

Look closely, yes, Pat caught our 3rd crawdad of the day!

And the focus is a bit off on this last photo, cuz he's charging towards me!  I learned NOT to stand between the crawdad and the water after Pat kindly gets them to let go of the hook.  They CHARGE back toward the water!
